Ban Treaty Day in Oak Ridge

January 23 marks the second anniversary of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

OREPA will be combining our celebration of the Ban Treaty with our Sunday vigil this year. We will start in Oak Ridge at 3:30 with a banner-holding vigil at the high-traffic intersection of South Illinois Avenue (Rt. 62) and Lafayette Ave/Scarboro Road.

At 4:20 or so, we will walk back along Scarboro Road to the Y-12 site where we will hang the flags of 68 nations that are currently States Parties to the TPNW, and we will read excerpts from the Treaty.

At 5:00, we will convene the weekly Sunday vigil, where we have been for more than 1,200 consecutive Sundays, at the entrance to the Y-12 Nuclear Weapons Complex.

You are invited to join us.
